Serbia extends national m-payments system

The National Bank of Serbia in cooperation with Telekom Srbija, has launched a new m-payment element to the existing ‘DinaCard' system.

In addition to the possibility of pre-paid mobile phone top-up by SMS, all DinaCard holders can pay their post-paid phone bills as well as order and pay for the issuing of excerpts of documents from municipal registers. In cooperation with the Mobile Telephony of Serbia, the DinaCard system plans to enable m-payments for fees including birth certificates and other documents in more than 50 municipalities by Q4 2008.

Pre-paid top-up by SMS was introduced two years ago (MPW 64). By sending an SMS on the number 8585, DinaCard holders can top-up any pre-paid account within the network of the Mobile Telephony of Serbia - Telekom Srbija.

Nearly 100,000 pre-paid phones are toped up via this service. All prospective customers who opt to register with their banks for the SMS top-up or the m-payment service will have their pre-paid account credited by 200-dinars.
